Most business’s “product” can be broken into two categories. Either it is a service, or it is a physical or digital product that can be purchased. One can be sold on Amazon like a toy or gadget, the other, a service is something like construction or a spa resort.

Knowing your product is vital to effective digital marketing and a successful business. You either need to know your product better than anyone in the world or you must know both your product and your competitors.

2. Knowing Your Customer In Business

Now we get to take a look at your business’s customers. Knowing your customer is the most important aspect of your business let alone your business’s marketing. The more data and information you can acquire the better.

You can collect data from online resources, but you should take the time to talk to your customer and gain information and data from the source. Take any and all information you can acquire on your target customer and study it. Get to know your customer better than you know your own family. That alone will lead to an effective marketing strategy.

Many marketing companies and businesses will make character boards of your target customer or customers. By creating a character board or persona board you can put a face and name to your target customer. This helps make your marketing more effective.

3. The Marketer

The third aspect of marketing is the marketer. This is the mastermind behind the strategy, organization, and execution of your business’s marketing. For many small business owners, it is you, the business owner. For many businesses, it is an unfortunate college student who lacks the skills and experience to execute an effective marketing strategy.

For some, a marketing expert sees the value of all forms of marketing, analytics, and the need for expertise in all of them. An expert marketer will tailor your marketing to your business with proven marketing strategies that work as well as marketing experiments that could result in a breakthrough.

For instance, under the form of digital marketing, you have a variety of platforms like social media, online ads, or most importantly your own website where you perform search engine optimization and content marketing. In traditional marketing, the platforms can be print newspapers or magazines, radio marketing, television ads, or even billboards and signs.

On all of these platforms, you will see or hear different mediums of marketing communicate their product to you, the customer.

6. The Marketing Strategy

The marketing strategy is where all aspects of marketing meet and the marketer works their magic. Choosing the correct marketing channels, approach, and communication to correctly reach your target audience is determined here. The marketing strategy is a bit abstract to mention, but a lot of it comes through knowledge of the different aspects of marketing and experience.

But that is not everything! Oh no, there is one final aspect of marketing that we touched on slightly when looking at our customers, but we could not look at it in depth until we covered everything. The last aspect of marketing is data and analytics!

7. Marketing Data & Analytics

Marketing data and analytics are the most vital aspect of a successful marketing campaign and a successful business as a whole. Each time we perform marketing there is valuable data and information that helps us learn about our audience, our product, and all other aspects of marketing.

 

You must set up all of your marketing campaigns to track this data effectively. Then you must break down the data and apply it to your future campaigns. Data must continually be reinvested into your campaign and strategy. This data can also impact how you define your customers, the way you perceive your product, the medium of communication, or the marketing platform. Marketing data over time is what will determine your business’s future success.
