One of the most difficult parts of working in digital marketing is meeting with business owners that have been burned, used, and sold bad digital marketing. They know they need digital marketing. Everything they hear, read, and people in their industry tell them how SEO or PPC or Social Media doubled their business’s size.

Looking at the websites, this is the marketing that I see complete on the website that results in terrible results for the customer.

1. Technical SEO Without Content

One of the most common things we see is a technically optimized website that is completely bare of written content.  This SEO work is typically done by a web designer or person who knows technical SEO but does not write. Technical SEO is important, just like changing the oil in a vehicle, but the written content on your website is the gas.

2. Link Building Without Content

A website with a lot of links but no content is powerful, can grow a little bit, but this is only one piece of the puzzle

3. Mediocre Web Content Without Other Optimizations

A website with a ton of mediocre and unorganized content that isn’t technically optimized.

A lot of the issues with marketing companies is that they typically only perform a piece of the larger marketing puzzle. In the examples above, the work that the previous marketing company was not terrible. It was not as good as Wes Web’s digital marketing (in my opinion of course).

  • The customer is neglected in the strategy.
  • Only 1 of the three pillars of SEO is performed.
  • They focus on the business brand rather than the product and customer.

While their work is quality, just as eggs in a cake can be high quality (and expensive these days) but if they forget the sugar, butter, and flour, the taste is terrible!
